Student Aspirations.
Our Belief
We believe that all students can reach their potential and aspirations if 8 Conditions are in place in their school. These conditions are;
- Belonging
- Heroes (role models)
- Sense of accomplishment
- Spirit of Adventure
- Curiosity and Creativity
- Fun and Excitement
- Leadership and Responsibility
- Confidence to Take Action.
These conditions come from the Quaglia Institute for Student Aspirations. (QISA). Since 2003 we worked very closely with QISA to make Penryn College a UK demonstration site for this work. We are now continuing this work alone and it is led by Miss L Chapman, who is an Advanced Skills Teacher in Student Aspirations and Student Voice.
Student voice work is important in our school because…..
- It provides opportunities for all students to take on roles of responsibility and to get involved in real decision making.
- It provides opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, becoming confident and active participants in the life of the school.
- It is about students and staff working together, developing positive working relationships to improve the school as a learning community.
- It makes students feel that they belong.
Student Questionnaire.
- Every 2 years we ask every child to complete a Student Voice questionnaire.
- It contains many statements about all aspects of school life that the students have to say how much they agree with.
- The results help us to make positive changes that will directly affect the students and their experience of school.
Student voice roles.
The school offers opportunities for all children to become actively involved in taking on roles of responsibility, decision making, leadership and improving the school as a learning community. These roles are;
- Student PR.
- Student council.
- Students as researchers.
- Eco School.
- Display team.
- Student departmental or community leaders
- Tutor group leaders.
- Transition group.
- Anti Bullying support group.
- Prefects.
- Library assistant.
